FAQ

A tandem flight should feel good – even before you take off.
That’s why I’ve put together the most important questions for you, so you know exactly how a flight with us works
and why paragliding in the Zillertal is such a unique experience.

Which take-off sites does Air Zillertal use?

We fly – depending on wind, weather, and thermals – from several of the most beautiful mountains in the Zillertal:

Penken – Mayrhofen - Very strong thermals, ideal for Classic & Thermal flights.

Schwendberg – Mayrhofen – Hippach - Calm conditions with an impressive panorama of the high mountains.

Finkenberg - Perfect for wide valley views and smooth, gentle take-offs.

I choose the take-off site individually for you, based on the conditions of the day – no mass processing, no standard routes.
My goal is always that every guest gets the best possible flight.

How does a tandem flight work?

Simple and relaxed:

  • Meeting in Mayrhofen or Finkenberg

  • Ride up with the cable car or shuttle

  • Short and clear briefing

  • Take-off run (a few quick steps – depending on wind conditions)

  • Flight – calm, action-packed, or thermal, just as you like

  • Gentle landing

You don’t need any experience. I take care of everything.

Is tandem flying in the Zillertal safe?

Very safe – otherwise I wouldn’t have been doing it for over 20 years.
I fly exclusively with:

  • modern and certified equipment

  • clear and honest safety decisions

  • extensive experience with local wind systems

  • realistic weather assessments

I never start if the conditions aren’t right.
Safety ALWAYS comes first – no matter if it’s a guest, colleague, wind, or time pressure.

Can I fly if I’m afraid of heights?

Yes, absolutely.
More than 50% of my guests say they are afraid of heights – and almost all of them
are surprised how calm and comfortable the flight feels.
Many even say afterwards:
“That was much easier than I expected!”

How long does a tandem flight last?

Depending on the flight type and thermals:

  • Classic Panorama Flight: approx. 10–15 minutes

  • Thermal Flight: approx. 40 minutes up to 2 hours

Total time including ride up and preparation: about 1.5–2 hours.

What should I wear?

Please bring:

  • sturdy shoes

  • a windproof jacket

  • sunglasses

  • depending on the season: gloves or warm clothing

Everything else is provided by me.

What are the weight and age limits?

Weight: approx. 25–115 kg
Age: from young children to seniors – I’ve flown with guests from 4 to over 90 years old.

For children: height and motivation must be suitable (please contact me beforehand).

Can I bring my own GoPro or camera?

Yes – just let me know before the flight.
I also carry a high-quality camera for photos & videos so you can get great footage without worrying about filming yourself.

What happens in bad weather?

Very simple:
If wind, rain, or thermals are not suitable → free rebooking.
I decide early and transparently.
No one has to wait on the mountain or go home disappointed.

Can I choose the style of the flight?

Of course.
You decide whether you want your flight to be:

  • calm and smooth

  • scenic with lots of panorama

  • thermal and higher

  • action-packed with dynamic maneuvers

I tailor every flight to your feeling.
No fixed programs – your flight, your moment.

Do you take photos or videos during the flight?

Yes – after every single flight.
Photos and videos can be transferred to your phone immediately after landing if you want them.

How do we get to the take-off site?

Depending on the start location, we ride up with:

  • the Penkenbahn

  • the Finkenberger Almbahn

  • or a shuttle

Lift tickets are not included in the flight price – just like with all flying schools and tandem companies in the Zillertal.
I let you know in advance which lift we will take and why.

Why should I fly with AIR Zillertal and not someone else?

Very simple:
With me, you are not just a number.
I take time for you, explain everything calmly, and adapt the flight to your wishes.
No stress, no rush, no “quick, the next one is waiting” attitude.

You get:

  • personal guidance from the owner himself

  • over 25 years of real flying experience

  • deep local expertise in all Zillertal flying areas

  • the highest safety standards

  • emotional, individual moments instead of a standard program

Guests feel the difference – and that’s what sets Air Zillertal apart from many others in the valley.
